FROM DOING FOR TO STRUGGLING WITH

Creative Justice is an intercultural gathering, and shared learning opportunity, for agents of change who value cross-cultural solidarity, authentic allyship and equitable approaches to collective recovery, reconciliation and resistance.

The main objective is to deepen our understanding of social justice theory (equity for all) and strengthen our own community engagement practices – all through an embodied learning process that evokes our emotional intelligence, honours our earned experience, and elevates our collective knowledge.

While providing a detailed breakdown on how to use Image and Forum Theatre for various applied arts purposes, we will use both tools – along with Rainbow of Desire processes – to discover more about how to:
  1. Identify our positions of power and act from them to intervene against interpersonal, cultural and systemic inequities;
  2. Defer to cultural authority that is not your own and navigate cultural accountabilities;
  3. Address, de-escalate and transform interpersonal conflict resolution – equitably;
  4. Analyze where allyship can become performative;
  5. Explore how we unconsciously perpetuate power-over dynamics in social justice networks;
  6. Put oppressed peoples back into the centre of all things social justice.
