THE BODY DOES NOT LIE

The Creative Justice intensive prioritizes embodied learning, through equitable applications of Theatre of the Oppressed-based, embodied collaboration methods – as participants are guided through the foundations of anti-oppressive practice.

Embodied learning...
  1. Centers the experiential (earned) knowledge and capabilities of people who experience oppression and equalizes power imbalances in social justice networks;
  2. Complements intellectual knowledge with emotional wisdom;
  3. Is a highly participative, multi-versal approach that embraces and accommodates multiple differences; and
  4. Uses accessible communication and equitable engagement methods.

Within Theatre of the Oppressed collaboration methods:
  1. All participate in and contribute equally to the production of knowledge and continuous dialogue;
  2. The learners are the subject and not the object of the process; and
  3. The goal is to liberate participants from the internal and external oppressions that hinder our ability to act.

Anti-oppressive practice:
  1. Attends to inequities that exist in personal, social and systemic spheres of society;
  2. Does not negate cultural contexts, historical impact and intergenerational/ inherited traumas; and
  3. Motivates agents of change to rely on non-dominant groups of people in social justice work.
