You will receive a detailed welcome package after you register, as well as payment receipts. Personal Risk: Travel insurance is strongly recommended for out-of-province and out-of-country participants. All participants are required to sign a Liability Waiver. Places to stay: Due to liability concerns, we can no longer assist with arranging places to stay. The personal is political: Expect to participate from a place of personal experience, and to have your boundaries respected. Accommodations: Individualized accommodations will be made to ensure meaningful participation for all. In terms of offering "safe space", we insist on a shared learning environment in which we all feel welcome, respected and valued enough to assert and have our boundaries honoured. In this, we acknowledge that safety is unique to all. We also refuse to paternalize anyone, by believing we are capable of predicting all of your needs. We instead prioritize equitable space, as a result, and strive for a collective sense of belonging. Accountabilities: Note that if your wellness is dependent on avoiding all potential triggers or hurt feelings, then this is not the intensive for you. The dirty details of oppression are openly explored. Responsibility for privilege and social capital is necessary. Informed risks are encouraged. Emotions are opportunities for discovery and growth, not a reason to disengage from or shut down the collective process. Disagreements are equitably mitigated. Responsibilities: Discomfort is often a part of the learning process; so is joy, pride, happiness, compassion and so on. Because social justice collaboration can often be emotional, we use embodied learning and value emotional intelligence. All participants are compassionately and competently supported to work through, rather than avoid, whatever arises for you during the intensive. But the potential to feel re-victimized does exist. We consider it your responsibility, and trust that you have the ability, to make informed choices for yourself during the intensive around what boundaries to put in for yourself, and when. |
